There’s plenty for the kids at the National Railway Museum besides the wonderful locomotives to admire. They can let off steam in the adventure playground outside and take a trip on the miniature railway (£3 per person, under-2s free). There’s the Mallard Experience ride in the Great Hall, plus three working model railways.

In 2013 the museum was threatened with possible closure due to government cuts. However, strength of local feeling and donations has saved it for now.
